"GlenLaurel on Water Island is probably the closest thing to "paradise" you will find on earth."
One of our guests at GlenLaurel left the above quote in our guest book. We cannot argue with the sentiment.
Lying just off the southern coast of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Water Island, only 491 acres in size, is a quiet residential community with about 100 full-time friendly residents.
One of the best things about vacationing at GlenLaurel on Water Island is that you can decide how busy you want to be, and how much of a "crowd" you are in.
Do you want to take a short ferry ride over to St. Thomas and enjoy some great shopping downtown in Charlotte Amalie? How about going on a guided taxi tour filled with interesting facts and history about St. Thomas? There are a ton of activities you can enjoy on St. Thomas! Check out our "Virgin Island Links".

When you have had your fill of the "tourist experience", GlenLaurel is only a 7 minute ferry ride away. Here you can enjoy the peace and solitude afforded by a small, uncrowded island. Sit outside the house reading a good book and listen to the waves break on Limestone Beach directly below the house. Or walk down to secluded Limestone Beach and do some beachcombing. You never know what "treasures" you will find.

You will definitely want to spend some time at Honeymoon Beach on Water Island. Honeymoon Beach has been cited as one of the "10 Best Beaches in the Caribbean". A single strand of white sandy beach slopes gently into the crystal clear blue waters of the Caribbean. There are no waves and the beach is ideal for snorkeling and just floating around. Maybe that is one of the reasons they shot the beach scenes for the Brad Pitt movie, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" here!

Water Island was used as a U.S. military installation during WWII. The remnants of their occupation can still be found at Fort Segarra on Water Island. The underground fort has two unfinished gun emplacements and a look out post. The views from the lookout post provide a breathtaking panoramic view of the Caribbean and surrounding islands. This is a "must see" picture spot!

Of course, on a small island you have to make your own entertainment and Water Island is no exception. In season you can expect there to be a "Drive-in Movie" on Honeymoon Beach on Monday nights. This drive-in consists of a big sail stretched between two Palm trees and sitting in your golf cart to watch the show. Quite an experience.

Also in season there is usually "Bingo on Honeymoon Beach" every Wednesday night. Even if you have never played "Bingo" this is quite a fun night.
On Friday nights during season you can try out the "All you can eat" pizza at Pirate's Ridge Deli.
To round out your week you should have dinner on the beach on Saturday night. Heidi's Honeymoon Grill serves up delicious entrees that you can enjoy and desserts that are to die for. Right under the starlit sky!

One of the best things about Water Island is that everyone is so friendly and always willing to lend a helping hand. Hey, if you lived here full-time I guess you would be happy too!
